Stamford's Harry F. King, Loved Golf

Harry F. King, 95, a lifelong resident of Stamford died Saturday. He was born July 4, 1915.

King belonged to many organizations, including the Glenbrook Athletic Club, the Elks Club of Stamford, the Ponus Yacht Club, the Stamford Police Association and the Police Association of Connecticut. He also enjoyed playing golf at Sterling Farms and Hubbard Heights — now E. Gaynor Brennan — golf courses with his friends whom he affectionately called “The Has Beens.”

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and received the American Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the European/ African/ Middle Eastern Service Medal. After his honorable discharge, King became a Stamford police officer, reaching the rank of lieutenant before retiring in 1974.

King is survived by his sisters Grace King Caulkin of Fullerton, Calif., and Ruth Wyko of Stamford. He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys T. King in 2010.

The King family will receive family and friends Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bosak Funeral Home. The service will take place 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. John’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Darien.
