Stamford Warns Residents of High Heat

STAMFORD, Conn. — With temperatures around triple digits on Friday everyone in Stamford has to be cautious of heat stroke and other dangers the scorching weather can cause.

“The extremely high temperatures this area is experiencing can be dangerous and it is important that everyone take precautions when the temperature reaches 90 degrees and higher with the humidity at 60 percent or higher,” Anne Fountain, Stamford’s Director of Health, said in a press release.

The Health Department made several suggestions to help people cope with the heat. The suggestions included drinking lots of fluids — without alcohol, caffeine, or sugar — wearing lightweight, loose clothing, and staying indoors in air conditioning.

The city has also opened up cooling centers at the Stamford Government Center, Yerwood Community Center and the Stamford Fire & Rescue Houses. The government center will be open until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Yerwood will be open until 7 p.m. on Friday, and the fire houses will be open 24 hours.

You should also check in regularly with people at risk — the elderly, children, and the sick — to see how they are coping with the heat.
