Stamford Walk in the Park to Benefit the Disabled

STAMFORD, Conn. — Many of the people you see walking in Stamford’s Cove Island Park this Sunday will be walking for a cause, to raise money for the Stamford organization Always Reaching for Independence.

The walkers will be taking part in the group's 6th Annual Walk for Independence. The agency helps adults with disabilities find jobs and homes, as well as providing needed services, a press release for the walk said. Currently, Always Reaching for Independence assists about 150 clients.

Last year, some 350 people participated and about $35,000 was raised. This year, the organization is hoping to have 500 people and raise over $50,000, the release said. All proceeds will help fund programs.

Registration begins at 10 a.m., with walking scheduled to start around 11 a.m. and lunch to follow. There is no fee to walk, but all walkers who pledge $50 or more will receive a T-shirt, the release said.

For more information or to register to walk, become a sponsor or volunteer, visit www.arict.org or call Gerard Gasparino, manager of development, at 203-324-9258, ext. 3023.
