Stamford Trio Arraigned in Slaying

Three Stamford men were arraigned on felony murder charges Tuesday in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Denny Jovanny Alcantera of Stamford last year.  Each was held on $1 million bond pending a Jan. 5 appearance in Superior Court.

The three -- Darryl “Pretty” Bonds, Tyrone “TT” Tarver and Joshua “Gunz” McNeil -- were arrested by Stamford police on Monday. In addition to felony murder, each is charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit murder.

According to police, the trio robbed Alcantera, then shot him twice. The incident took place on Nov. 4, 2009, in front of the home of a friend of Alcantera’s at 62 Stillwater Ave.

A 24-year-old Bridgeport woman, Yvania Collazzo, faces charges of hindering prosecution in the incident and was held on $350,000 bond.

McNeil is 17 but because of the nature of the charges, he will be tried as an adult, according to court testimony. All four defendants were appointed counsel from the public defender’s office.

“We just received the warrants earlier today and must review them and the charges before recommending future legal counsel to the defendants,” said lawyer Howard Ehring of the Public Defender’s Office.

“We received the arrest warrants late Friday and assembled several teams of officers to make the arrests all over town,” said Sgt. Paul Guzda of the Stamford Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and one of the arresting officers.

“In light of the shooting of a Stamford Police officer last week who was making an arrest, we had to be extra careful,” he added.
