Stamford Teenager Suspected in Shooting

STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford teenager arrested Sunday night is suspected of shooting at people and nearly hitting two small children in the South End, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.

According to witnesses, two men approached another group of men hanging out on the sidewalk on Henry Street and shot at them, Hohn said. There were five shots fired, two of which hit a nearby house where a mother had her two children on the front porch, Hohn said. A third bullet hit a parked car.

Police are searching for the other two bullets, but do not believe anyone was shot as no blood was found and the hospital did not report any patients with gun wounds, Hohn said.

Andre Russell, 18, who fit the description witnesses gave, was arrested outside of his home on Ludlow Street, Hohn said.

The suspect later admitted to firing the gun, telling police he had a problem with the group of men and was protecting himself, Hohn said.

Russell did not identify who the other shooter was, Hohn said. The group of men fled right after the incident occurred, he said.

Russell was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a child, three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, illegal possession of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit, police said. Russell was arraigned Monday, Hohn said.

The investigation is still open as police look for the second suspect, Hohn said.
