Stamford Reps Finalize $466.3M Budget

Stamford’s Board of Representatives approved the city’s $466.3 million budget at a special meeting Tuesday night. The total is $4.3 million less than the $470.6 million that Mayor Michael Pavia proposed in March.

The final Board of Education budget will be $229 million, which is $339,000 less than first proposed. The Board of Representatives fiscal committee originally cut $450,000 out of the proposed spending but added $111,000 back to the account Tuesday. City Rep. Andy Sklover, D-20, argued against further cuts in the schools budget.

The city’s operating spending plan was approved at $237 million, about $4 million less than the $241 million budget proposed by Pavia. The capital budget was kept the same as Pavia’s proposed $45.8 million.

Most of the items in Special Funds Budget were also left as proposed: E. G. Brennan Fund at $1.4 million; Grants Funded Programs Fund at $8.486 million; Police Extra Duty Fund at $8 million; Risk Management Fund at $81.969 million; Marina Fund at $433,000; and Parking Fund at $6.09 million. The WPCA Fund was reduced by $384,464 to $22.4 million.

The board must set the mill rate for the upcoming fiscal year before May 25, the town charter says. A date has not been set for the board to make that decision.
