Stamford Remains In A State Of Emergency

STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford will keep comfort zones and the emergency shelter open Monday as the state of emergency in the city remains in effect, a release from Mayor Michael Pavia’s office said.

As of 8:10 p.m. there were still 4,472 Connecticut Light & Power customers in the city without power, about 8 percent of Stamford, according to the company’s outage report. Right after Hurricane Sandy more than 60 percent of the city was without power.

There are 54 line crews in the city working around the clock in Stamford to restore power, the release said.

Stamford Public Schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday as schools remain without power, and not all of the bus routes are passable, the schools’ website said. Tuesday was a scheduled day off for Election Day.

There is no word on whether or not polling places will have to move because of power outages.

Stamford High School, 55 Strawberry Hill Ave., is open as an emergency shelter.

Westhill High School, 125 Roxbury Road, will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. to allow people to take showers and take potable water. All residents need to bring their own towels and toiletries, the release said.

The Stamford Y.M.C.A., 909 Washington Blvd., will be open on Monday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. for residents to shower. The Y.M.C.A. asks that people bring identification and their own toiletries.
