Stamford Police Charge Man With Growing Mushrooms

STAMFORD, Conn. — Police are searching a Stanwick Place home in Stamford, where the resident is suspected of growing illegal mushrooms, Assistant Chief of Police Jon Fontneau said.

Police went to the house to arrest Dimitri Taranov, 42, on a warrant for failure to pay or plead to an infraction, Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said. While making the arrest “other things started to unravel,” and the narcotics unit was called in, he said.

Police called in a state agency and a hazardous materials unit from Stamford Fire & Rescue to help in the search of the home, Fontneau said.

In addition to the failure to pay or plead charge, Taranov also was charged with possession of a controlled substance and sale of a controlled substance, police said.
