Stamford Nonprofit Gets $3.8 Million in Meds

STAMFORD, Conn. —  Stamford-based medical relief organization AmeriCares received a donation of $3.8 million in prescription medications from biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca for its free clinic program.

AmeriCares supports more than 400 health care facilities across the country serving the poor and uninsured as part of its U.S. Medical Assistance Program. The donation from AstraZeneca will reach about 100 clinics in 28 states, a press release said. The medicines from the company are among the most popular asked for from the clinics, Morgan White, manager of the program, said in the release.

“Donations like this one are critical because we could never afford to purchase these medicines for our patients,” said Christy Fitzgerald, executive director of The Way Free Medical Clinic in Green Cove Springs, Fla., which received nearly $50,000 worth of medicine from the donation.

This is the third consecutive year AmeriCares received a donation from AstraZeneca
