Assistant State's Attorney Joseph Valdez told state Superior Court Judge Erika M. Tindill that Dayron Marquis Wills of Stamford continues to pose a threat to residents.
"He's a serious risk to the community," Valdez said as he argued for the $1 million bond to be maintained. “This is a very serious case, and there’s a very strong case against him."
Wills, 22, of 300 Tresser Blvd., is charged with five counts each of first-degree assault with a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm and possession of marijuana.
He returns to court July 28. His lawyer Darnell Crosland, who didn't enter a plea Monday for Wills, asked for a bond hearing at a later date.
Tindill decided to keep the bond at $1 million.
There was a large media presence in the courtroom along with many onlookers who came to see Wills.
In a video taken by a bystander and released by Stamford Police, Wills is shown firing randomly into a group of people outside Tino's Restaurant at 84 W. Park Place early Sunday, police said.
Five people were injured, but there were no fatalities, police said. The shooter can be seen shooting at close range at a number of people in the video, police said.
According to a police report, Wills fired 10 times after he was punched in the face by an unnamed man during an argument over a woman. Wills was arrested nearby shortly after the shooting, police said.
Wills admitted to the shooting and said he had thrown the handgun away, police said. The gun was recovered by police. Wills had a valid concealed pistol permit, police said.
