Stamford Man Faces Theft and Gun Charges

STAMFORD, Conn. – A Stamford man was arrested early Monday and charged with taking a car following an argument with its two occupants, police said. The dispute started when the motorists saw Orlando Montalvo with their motor scooter, which had been stolen a few weeks ago, and began to question him, police said.

Montalvo, 27, then lifted up his shirt to show a handgun in his waistband before taking off in their car, police said. The pistol turned out to be a Walther BB gun, police said. A patrol officer found the car, a BB gun and a man fitting Montalvo’s description a few blocks away, police said. The two motorists identified the suspect as the man who took their car, police said.

Montalvo, of 50 Bonner St., was charged with second-degree robbery, interfering with an officer, third-degree larceny and carrying a dangerous weapon, police said. He was held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 17, police said.
