Larry Talledo-Torrejon, 29, a citizen of Peru who resided in Stamford, was planning to purchase a restaurant for $300,000 and provided the manager with $150,000 in checks without sufficient money to cover them and $150,000 in casher's checks, Daly said.
On Saturday, Dec. 5, Talledo-Torrejon told an individual who owed him $5,000 to follow the manager to his New York home and kill him, Daly said. Talledo-Torrejon told the individual he would forgive the $5,000 debt and pay him an additional $5,000 to carry out the plan, Daly said.
That individual contacted police to tell them about the plan, then called Talledo-Torrejon to tell him he kidnapped the restaurant manager and was holding him for ransom, Daly said. On Monday, Dec. 7, Talledo-Torrejon told the individual his debt had been canceled, and suggested to the individual that they should start a kidnapping and extorting business, Daly said.
Talledo-Torrejon also filed a complaint with Stamford police saying the restaurant manager had stolen the $150,000 he gave him to finalize the purchase of the restaurant, Daly said.
He was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 8, after he provided the individual with $500 in partial payment for the killing, Daly said. He has been detained in federal custody since his arrest.
If convicted, Talledo-Torrejon faces a maximum prison term of 10 years.
