Stamford Homeless Agency Changes its Name

STAMFORD, Conn. — Say goodbye to St. Luke’s LifeWorks and hello to Inspirica. The Stamford-based organization that provides services for the homeless announced its name change Tuesday.

A couple of factors led to the name change: It has been a nonsectarian organization for 25 years and the name is often confused with churches, schools and hospitals of the same name, a statement from the organization said. It also believes the new name provides hope, inspiration and forward movement, as well as separating itself from other entities, the statement said.

The organization said it did extensive research in deciding to change its name, which included surveying 2,000 clients, volunteers, donors and others.

“While our name has changed, however, our mission has not. We remain committed to helping the neediest people in our communities return to productive, stable lives,” Inspirica’s Chief Executive Officer Jason Shaplen said in the statement.

The agency provides services to 500 to 600 adults and children per year who face homelessness at 10 locations: eight in Stamford, one in Georgetown and one in Fairfield. It is the largest agency serving the homeless in lower Fairfield County, according to its website. It houses about 240 people per night.
