The student filed a claim of sexual misconduct against the city in connection with his relationship with English teacher Danielle Watkins, a Norwalk woman who is now serving a five-year term in prison on sex assault charges in the case, the Advocate said.
The Norwalk trial lawyer firm of Papcsy Janosov Roche posted the following message on its Facebook page, although attorney Donald Papcsy refused to confirm the Stamford settlement was for $750,000:
"This past week we were able to achieve a settlement of a claim for sexual misconduct against a municipality for $750,000.00, total value of 1,108,921.00 for all claims, striving to create change in our towns and cities by holding municipalities responsible for their negligence, and shedding light on the need for new immunity laws to force them to act responsibly in their duty to protect our students and citizens."
Another teen who was supplied with marijuana by Watkins will also share in the settlement, the Advocate said.
The Stamford High principal was fired and the assistant principal were resigned as a result of the teacher sex case, and Superintendent Winifred Hamilton also ended up resigning as the scandal lingered.
