Stamford High Grad to Discuss Art of the Novel

Aspiring novelists take note: Writer Marina Neary will discuss her work during a book sale and signing at Ferguson Library at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16. Neary, a Stamford High School graduate, is a historical novelist as well as a poet and essayist.

Though Neary enjoys uncovering history to establish the backdrop for her works, she doesn't shy from issues that would be challenging to write about in any time period. Her first novel, "Wynfield's Kingdom," tackles subjects that include substance addiction, medical malpractice and child abuse, not to mention class wars, in 1830s London.

Other works by Neary include "Wynfield's War," "Lady with a Lamp: The Untold Story of Florence Nightingale" and "Bipolar Express." She is a contributor and editorial reviewer for Bewildering Stories Magazine.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held in the library's third-floor auditorium. For more information, call 203-351-8228.

Are you as aspiring novelist? Will you go the library for Neary's appearance and hear about developing the craft of writing?
