Stamford Firefighters Put Out Blaze at Apartment

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford Fire & Rescue quickly extinguished a blaze at an apartment on Washington Boulevard on Thursday evening, Deputy Chief Eric Lorenz said.

Fire personnel were on the scene within two minutes because the apartment was located right behind the South End Station, Lorenz said. The first responders found heavy smoke and detected heat coming from the two-story apartment, he said.

No injuries were reported. The apartment was unoccupied and unfurnished, Lorenz said.

The fire was first reported at about 4:30 p.m. from residents in the complex when the smoke detectors went off, he said. The smoke alarms are on a connected system that sets off all the detectors in the complex when one goes off, he said.

Stamford fire marshals were interviewing residents as they investigate the cause of the blaze, Lorenz said. Police were also on the scene, blocking traffic on Washington Boulevard from Pulaski Street to Atlantic Street.
