Stamford Favors Hometown Candidates

With a lighter than expected turnout, Stamford voters who ventured to the polls agreed with the rest of the state about the Democratic gubernatorial candidate – choosing former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy by a more than 2-to-1 margin over Ned Lamont. However, local residents broke ranks with other Connecticut voters over the Republican candidate, overwhelmingly voting for Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele of Stamford over Tom Foley of Greenwich. Foley and Malloy will faceoff in the fall.

Stamford Republican Voting Results

Among Stamford's registered Republicans, voter turnout was 34 percent. Local residents favored Fedele, with 3,456 ballots. Foley had 978 Stamford votes, and Griebel 197.

Republican lieutenant governor candidate Mark Boughton of Danbury received 2,203 votes; Lisa Wilson-Foley's total was 2,015 votes.

Linda McMahon bested challengers in her race for the U.S. Senate with 2,580 Stamford votes compared with 1,283 for Peter Schiff and 689 for Rob Simmons.

Martha Dean's run for attorney general resulted in 2,415 Stamford votes; Ross Garber received 1,768 Stamford votes.

Fourth district Congressional candidate Dan Debicella received 2,607 Stamford votes compared with 1,233 for Rob Merkle and 422 for Rick Torres.

For state representative from the 148th District, Ralph Antonacci Sr. received 269 votes and Philip Balestriere garnered 288 votes.

Stamford Democratic Voting Results

In Stamford, 30 percent of the registered Democrats cast ballots. Malloy received 5,352 Stamford votes, while Lamont got 2,146.

In the lieutenant governor's race, Nancy Wyman had 5,368 votes and Mary Glassman had 1,792.

Challenging for secretary of the state were Denise Merrill, who received 4,995 votes, and Gerry Garcia, with 1,806 votes.

Susana Vidan becomes the Democratic candidate for state representative from the 144th District with 967 votes, compared with John Zelinsky's 672 votes.

For the Democrats running for comptroller, Kevin Lembo received 5,216 votes and Michael Jarjura received 1,510 votes.
