Stamford Cops Hunt Suspect in Fatal Stabbing

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford Police are hunting for a 25-year-old Stamford man, "considered armed and dangerous," in a fatal stabbing Sunday, June 26, on a West Side street, The Hartford Courant reports.

The wanted man has been identified as Isaias Rojas-Vasquez, of 153 Spruce St., according to the report.

"He is considered armed and dangerous and is definitely on the run," The Courant quoted Stamford Police Lt. Jim Matheny as saying on Saturday, July 2. Matheny told the paper authorities believe the suspect is "still in the state." He said Rojas-Vasquez has been spotted in the East Haven and New Haven areas in the last week.

The stabbing victim was identified by his family as Miguel Velasco, also of Spruce St. Police said Velasco's body was discovered in a parked car with a large knife sticking from his chest and that he apparently had been stabbed as he slept.

The Courant quoted Matheny as saying that there may have been a confrontation between Rojas-Vasquez and Velasco sometime before the stabbing.

Rojas-Vasquez was arrested for aggravated assault in October 2008 in Stamford, authorities said.
