Stamford Cops Arrest Duo in Manhole Cover Thefts

STAMFORD, Conn. — Police arrested two men suspected of stealing four manhole covers Saturday in Stamford, Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said.

After removing the storm drain covers, Kenneth Alfano, of Norwalk, and Luis Sarceno, of Stamford, drove to Norwalk to scrap them for money, Shawinsky said. Their request was denied and the company called Norwalk police suspicious of the duo, he said.

After receiving the information from Norwalk police, Stamford police found the two and arrested them, Shawinsky said. The storm drains were found in the back of the vehicle, he said.

Both were charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and second-degree larceny, Shawinsky said. They were released after each posted a $1,000 bond, he said.
