Stamford Center to Start Creating Businesses

STAMFORD, Conn. – Patricia Meagher feels that with the launch of a Website, Stamford’s Innovation Center officially opened Tuesday. Her belief was supported by the state announcing a loan to the center.

“With the Governor and the Department of Economic and Community Development behind us now, we can do this,” Meagher, one of the center’s founders, said.

John Scrudato hopes that his business, Scaled Liquid Systems, will become a beneficiary of the center. He believes that entrepreneurs need to be strengthened if jobs are to be created.

“Connecticut has tremendous potential,” Scrudato said speaking of the Innovation Center.

The announcement of the loan came during a meeting at the Innovation Center at which Gov. Dannel Malloy and Catherine Smith, commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development, met with several entrepreneurs to discuss how the state can create jobs. The loan will come through in a few weeks, Smith said. No other details were given.

The Innovation Center will help entrepreneurs start businesses and meet with investors, Meagher said. She described the center with the acronym, ICET, standing for investors, corporate sponsors, experience and talent. When all these factors are present, more ideas will become businesses, she said.

“It’s not rocket science, it’s the community,” she said of how start-ups earn success. The Innovation Center is located in Stamford’s Old Town Hall.
