Mantoura waived her right to indictment and pleaded guilty Tuesday, Oct. 6, in Hartford federal court to one count of making a false statement to the Medicare program, Daly said.
In the plea, Mantoura admitted that she submitted false claims to Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies.
Mantoura, who operates a podiatry practice at 95 Morgan St. in Stamford, submitted false claims to Medicare and private insurers to obtain payment for nail avulsion, when she had not performed one, rather provided routine food care, including clipping the patients’ toenails, court documents said. According to the documents Mantoura was paid $195,000 as a result of these false claims
When sentenced Dec. 28, Mantoura faces a maximum of five years in prison, a maximum fine of more than $380,000, and an order of restitution.
In the civil settlement, Mantoura has paid $288,538.24 to the government in connection with her submission of false claims to the Medicare and Medicaid program.
On Oct. 1, Mantoura was excluded from the Medicare program and will no longer be permitted to submit federal health care claims, Daly said.
