Reservist, 27, Served Twice in Iraq

Services for a Stamford man who served his country through two tours of duty in Iraq will take place Monday.  A Mass of Christian Burial for George G. Gjuraj, 27, will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 566 Elm St. in Stamford.

George died Wednesday, Aug. 18. He was a U.S. Army Reservist, serving as a nuclear, biological, chemical specialist. He went to Iraq twice, first from 2004 to 2005 as head non-commissioned officer with convoys. He returned in 2006, remaining in Iraq until the following year.

George was born in the Bronx on April 25, 1983. He is the son of Tony and Flora Soukaras Gjuraj. He leaves them behind along with wife, Yolanda; brothers Angel and Paul Gjuraj; sisters Jane, Michelle and Lydia Gjuraj; and a nephew, Joseph R. Lorenti. All reside in Stamford.

Following tomorrow's funeral, interment will take place at the State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, in Middletown. The family will receive friends Sunday at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, between 2 and 5 p.m.
