Pool Exec Pleads Guilty in Greenwich Boy's Death

The president of a swimming pool company charged in the 2007 drowning of a 6-year-old Greenwich boy pleaded guilty Wednesday in Superior Court in Stamford to a charge of criminally negligent homicide after failing to install a state-mandated safety device, The Associated Press reported Wednesday.

Prosecuters said David Lionetti caused Zachary Cohn’s death because his Stamford-based company, Shoreline Pools, never installed a device that would have prevented the boy's arm from getting stuck in a pump drain. A law had been passed three years earlier, in 2004, requiring all pools to have the device.

Lionetti was originally charged with manslaughter. But under an accepted plea deal, he pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide will complete 500 hours of community service and repair 100 pools not up to code. Shoreline Pools pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and will be required to pay the $150,000 cost for advertisements promoting water safety.
