Police: Stamford Man in Custody Tried to Eat Crack

STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford man attempted to eat a bag of crack-cocaine while being searched by police just after midnight on Tuesday morning, Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said.

Jerrell Cook, 27, of 14 Orchard St., was arrested after Shawinsky said police found him sitting on top of a bag of crack-cocaine during a routine traffic stop by Cherry Street and Jefferson Street, Shawinsky said. Cook was in the passenger seat, and the driver signed a sworn statement saying Cook tried to sell the drugs to him, he said.

When Cook was taken into custody he ate the contents of a bag of crack-cocaine police had found on him after officers set it down on a counter, Shawinsky said. The amounts in each bag were not in the police report, Shawinsky said.

Cook was charged with tampering with physical evidence, interfering with officers, sale of certain illegal drugs and possession of narcotics, police said.
