Police Squad Seeks Witnesses to Crash

A head-on collision that sent six people to the hospital, one with severe injuries, on Tuesday night is being investigated the Stamford Police Department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad. Witnesses to the accident, which closed Long Ridge Road for three hours are being sought.

The crash occurred at 7:30 p.m. on Long Ridge Road. A 2009 Subaru Forester operated by Judy Stewart, 55, of Pound Ridge, New York, collided with a 2006 Ford E350 extended passenger van operated by Alexander Fonarow, 24, also of Pound Ridge, according to a press release from the squad.

Stewart was traveling northbound on Long Ridge Road and Fonarow was traveling southbound. The two vehicles collided head-on, according to the release.

Stewart had to be extricated from her vehicle by the Long Ridge Fire Company. She was then taken by Stamford Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Stamford Hospital. She had to undergo immediate surgery for "severe and incapacitating injuries," according to the release.

Fonarow and four passengers also were transported to the hospital. All were treated for minor injuries and released. Charges are pending, and the investigation is ongoing. Police ask any witness to the accident to contact the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad at (203) 977-4712.
