Police Arrest Suspect in Stamford Mall Robbery

STAMFORD, Conn. — Police arrested a Stamford man who is suspected of robbing one of his frequent hang out spots in the Stamford Town Center.

Police said Jorge Gabriel Benitez, 37, of 34 Brown Ave., allegedly broke into Hakky Instant Shoe Repair and stole $150 from the cash register before the store opened Monday morning. He allegedly was identified by the owner who watched surveillance video with police, and added that Benitez frequently came to the shop, police said.

The incident was first reported at around 10 a.m. Monday when employees of the shop reportedly found the store in disarray and the cash register pried open, police said. Benitez was arrested a short time after being identified, police said.

He was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny, police said.
