Oscar 'Goose' Thomas, 79, Retired Welder

Stamford High School graduate Oscar “Goose” Thomas died on Saturday, April 16, at the age of 79. He was born on Jan. 31, 1932, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The Korean War veteran worked as a certified welder until he retired from Peabody Engineering. He was also employed with Consolidated Diesel.

Thomas is survived by two daughters, Sondra Thomas Durant and Gloria Tracy Rhodes; two sons, Ron K. Thomas and his wife, Lysa, and Kenneth D. Thomas; a brother, the Rev. Alfred Thomas and his wife, Carrie, two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine M. Thomas; a brother, James Durant, and a son, Jeffrey Rhodes.

Calling hours are Thursday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to noon, with a funeral service to follow at Union Baptist Church, 805 Newfield Ave., Stamford. Interment will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery in Westport.
