Obama to Help Raise Funds for Blumenthal

Stamford will be the destination for a historic visit on Sept. 16, when President Barack Obama comes to the city. The President will come to Stamford for a fundraiser for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal, according to published reports. The exact location of his appearance has not yet been announced.

The President's time will be split between Stamford and another Fairfield County municipality that day. He's also scheduled to make an appearance in Greenwich for a Democratic National Committee event.

Blumenthal, Connecticut's attorney general, is running against Republican Linda McMahon of World Wrestling Entertainment fame. They're vying for the seat being vacated by Sen. Chris Dodd.

Blumenthal believes Obama's visit will help him raise necessary resources, according to reports.

Money is important in any election, but it may well play a greater role in this one. McMahon, who entered the race a political novice, reportedly has spent well over $20 million for her senatorial bid so far, and has said she intends to spend millions more.

The President is no stranger to Stamford. He visited the city last October to speak at a $1,000-per-plate fundraiser for Dodd, money targeted for his then-planned reelection campaign.
