Michelet Mongerard was at a party with about 20 or 30 family members when one of his cousins noticed him at the bottom of the pool around 7 p.m., at 56 Greenfield Road, said Stamford Police Sgt. Kenneth Jarrett.

One of Mongerard's cousins dragged him from the pool and was able to resuscitate him with CPR until medics arrived and took over, Jarrett said.

After the incident, Mongerard was transported to the hospital and police thought the incident was over until he died at the hospital, he said.

Jarrett said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the drowning and family members said he was able to swim.

Sgt. Paul Guzda said the department was awaiting toxicology reports for a final cause of death, which could take up to six weeks.
