Missing Stamford Boy Found in Mianus River Park

STAMFORD, Conn. — A hunt for a 14-year-old boy missing in Mianus River Park ended happily Wednesday afternoon when Stamford Police found him a little over an hour into their search, Capt. William Mullin said.

The Dolan Middle School student was at the park on a field trip with SoundWaters when he took off from the group sometime just before 11 a.m., Mullin said. Police found him about 500 to 600 yards away from where he was last seen. He was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment of minor cuts received while running through the woods, the captain said.

“I have no idea why he took off,” Mullin said, adding that police will follow up with the boy and his parents after he is released from the hospital.

“Everyone is very grateful that he turned up safe and sound,” said Sarah Arnold, public affairs officer for Stamford Public Schools.

Stamford Police had about 10 units, including a K-9 team, on the scene searching for the boy, according to Mullin. A State Police helicopter was on its way to assist, but the boy was found before it arrived, Mullin said.

“It was a good job all around,” he said, adding that a search of the park is not easy to conduct. The park is almost 300 acres of forest, has numerous trails and access points from both Stamford and Greenwich and is used by large numbers of visitors, according to the Friends of the Mianus River Park website
