Patricia Billie Miller handily defeated Fritz Blau for the 145th District Assembly seat, which she will occupy for a second term. This was the second contest between Democratic incumbent Miller and Republican Blau, who also were opponents in 2008. Like the last time, this time around voters chose Miller by a significant margin, 2,932 votes to Blaus 676.
A major interest for Miller in her role as a state representative over the past two years has been the achievement gap. She had a hand in legislation that helps parents be more involved in directing their childrens education, especially for underperforming schools. Miller sits on the Education Committee, as well as the Appropriations and the Government Administration and Elections committees.
Miller is a longtime Stamford resident. After graduating from Low Heywood School in 1973 she earned a bachelor of science degree from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. She then spent more than 25 years working for the Stamford Housing Authority.
