STAMFORD, Conn. A Greenwich man was charged with assaulting two people in Stamfords Scalzi Park on Sunday night, punching one in the face and hitting the other with a log, Sgt. Simon Blanc said.
Geovani Espada, 19, of Greenwich was picnicking with the victims, Blanc said. He approached a 13-year-old girl, the daughter of his mothers cousin, while she was leaving a bathroom, demanded sex, threatened her when she refused, but never touched her, Blanc said.
After being turned down Espada, who according to police was intoxicated, became irate and punched one man in the face and hit the girl's mother in the shoulder with a log, Blanc said. The girl and her mother refused to give sworn statements Sunday after the incident, but said they would come to police headquarters on Monday, Blanc said. The sergeant said he was not sure if the two had followed through and come to headquarters.
Espada was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, risk of injury to a child and second-degree threatening, police said.
The two victims refused medical treatment, Blanc said.
The case is still under investigation.
