A 26-year-old Stamford man was fatally shot early Friday on Rose Park Avenue. Police responding to a call about gunfire found an unresponsive man when they arrived, Capt. Richard Conklin said.
The victim was identified as Raymond Hayward of Spruce Street. He was later pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital. The arriving officers did not see anyone else at the scene.
Conklin said officers will canvass the area, which includes doing a forensic investigation, viewing surveillance cameras and interviewing residents. An autopsy has not been scheduled.
It was the second homicide of the year in Stamford, police said.
