Lost License Plate Leads to Arrest

Joseph Flores-Rivera, 21, of Fairfield Avenue, was charged at 3:18 a.m. Friday with evading responsibility after fleeing the scene of an accident, according to police. Flores was turning south on Washington Boulevard when his vehicle collided with a vehicle traveling eastbound on Pulaski Street. Flores fled the scene, according to police, but not before his license plate fell off the car. Through the plate number the responding officer identified the owner of the car, a 1990 Mercedes, as a Fairfield Avenue resident. Police went to the residence and the woman turned out to be Flores-Rivera's mother, who thought her son had been asleep. Flores-Rivera at first denied he had been out, but then admitted he'd driven the car, which he had parked a block away. He was released on $2,500 bond and received an Aug. 12 court date.
