Library Offers Sweet Sounds for Free

Here's a chance to hear great classical music for nothing. The Lumina String Quartet will perform at Stamford's Harry Bennett Branch Library this Thursday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. The concert is free and open to all, thanks to public funds from the city of Stamford in conjunction with the Community Arts Partnership program and the Friends of the Ferguson Library.

The quartet will perform works by Schubert, Mozart and Busoni. The group is ensemble-in-residence at Norwalk Community College. In addition to concerts, the Lumina String Quartet has shared its music and musical skills with area residents through master classes and other educational and coaching activities.

Members of the group are Asya Meshberg and Lynn Bechtold on violin, Boris Deviatov on viola, and cellist Jennifer DeVore. Two of the members, Meshberg and Bechtold, hail from Russia, and the quartet's general repertoire features several Russian composers. The Harry Bennett Branch Library is located at 115 Vine Road.
