Laura Powell, Worked at Stamford Gas Station

Laura Powell, a former longtime Stamford resident, died Thursday at the age of 93. Before moving to Gravel Ridge, Ark., in 2001, Powell had spent most of her life in Stamford.

She worked with her husband, Earl Powell, at their family-owned gas station.

Powell is survived by her daughter Claire Leheny; her son Earl Powell; and two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, four sisters and a brother.

A memorial service will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Ark., at 10 a.m. June 1. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Southbury Training School Foundation, P.O. Box 872, Southbury, CT 06488.

The family extended a special thank you to the staff at Cabot Nursing and Rehab Center and Arkansas Hospice for caring for Powell.  Funeral arrangements were set by the North Little Rock Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
