STAMFORD, Conn. John Harrington, 80, of Stamford died Aug. 8. He was born on July 18, 1931, in New York City.
He served in the Navy from 1953 to 1955 after graduating from New York State Maritime College. After the Navy he began working for New York Telephone and worked his way up to vice-president and controller. He served as chief financial officer at AT&T Communications before retiring in 1987.
One of his passions was sailing, and he was a member of the East Hampton Yacht Club.
Harrington is survived by his wife, Joan; his sons John, David and his wife Laura, and Michael, and his wife Kristen; his daughter Joanne, and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin, and his brothers, Donald and Walter.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the Summer Sea Term Expense Fund at New York State Maritime College.
A Mass was celebrated Aug. 12 at Holy Spirit Church in Stamford, and he was interred at Queen of Peace Cemetery. Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home handled funeral arrangements.
