Jane Berman, a Stamford resident and teacher at Greenwich Academy, died of ocular cancer on March 8. She was 59 years old.
Berman graduated from Johns Hopkins University and earned a doctorate in Women's History from SUNY Buffalo. She was a history teacher at Greenwich Academy for 30 years. In 2002, she was named chairman of the History Department. Berman also served as a student advisor in the Upper School, where she was affectionately known to her students as "The Berminator."
During her free time, Berman enjoyed spending time with her children and sharing in such interests as lacrosse and NASCAR.
She is survived by husband of 37 years, Donald Berman, and two children, Carrie and Eric. A service was held on March 9 at the Congregation Agudath Sholom in Stamford.
