Gladys Joan Brzoska, Great Bowler

STAMFORD, Conn. – Gladys Joan Brzoska died on Oct. 8. The lifelong Stamford resident was 85.

She was an exceptional duckpin bowler, winning the woman’s national singles championship with a record score of 425 and the ladies all-events title with a 1,153 in 1953. She also won 11 tournaments nationally and locally from 1952 to 1969, remained ranked in Connecticut ladies top 10 from 1952 to 1958, and was inducted into the Connecticut Duckpin Hall of Fame in 1988.

After graduating from Stamford High School in 1944, she went on to work for several corporations, including Electrolux, Schick, Ronson, Dixon-Sintaloy and Baldwin Technologies. She attended St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church and was an avid bingo player.

Brzoska is survived by her sister, Victoria Labbancz, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph, Walter, Eugene and Edward Brzoska, and a sister, Mary DeWitt.

Interment will be private. Arrangements were entrusted to Bosak Funeral Home.
