Girls Climb The Leadership Summit At Chelsea Piers In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. - More than 100 girls from Fairfield County middle schools and private schools participated in the Fairfield County Community Foundation's Fund for Women and Girls third annual Leadership Summit on Friday at Chelsea Piers in Stamford.

Students from Stamford, Greenwich, Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan, Bridgeport and Monroe attended the afternoon event.

During the summit, girls took part in leadership development workshops led by professionals, in conjunction with high school leaders.

Girls also participated in gymnastics, ice-skating, trampoline, rock climbing and more, to challenge themselves, connect with each other, and have fun.

The keynote speaker at the event was author Lauren Galley, who shared her signature "Girl Talk" program, inspiring middle school girls to create change in their world, and become their own superhero.

The girls received leadership journals at the end of the event, and were encouraged to continue to track their leadership progress.

Girls completed pre-event surveys asking whether they consider themselves leaders, and what, if anything, precludes them from being a leader.

The results showed many girls are unsure of their leadership skills.
