Girl Saved From Drowning at Stamford Beach

STAMFORD, Conn. — Two beachgoers at Cove Island Park in Stamford saved the life of an 11-year-old girl who did not know how to swim on Monday, police said.

They saw the girl struggling and immediately swam to her rescue, finding her six feet underwater, police said. The girl had wandered out too far and was swept under by the tide, police said.

Police did not identify the rescuers.

Once the girl was returned to land, a lifeguard performed CPR until she spit up water, police said. She was also given oxygen, police said.

Paramedics then took the girl to Stamford Hospital, police said.
