Former Lawyer Accused of Cheating Client

Former lawyer Mohin Kapadwala, 38, of Maitland Avenue, Stamford, is scheduled to appear in court next week after being arrested Aug. 21 on a first-degree larceny charge.

The charge stems from an allegation by a former client, Raj Solanki, who went with his current attorney to the Stamford Police Department on Aug. 9 to complain that Kapadwala had swindled Solanki out of $34,300, according to police. That sum is the amount Solanki claims Kapadwala held back from him after assisting Solanki with the sale of Atlantic News and Variety store on Atlantic Street. Kapadwala was Solanki's lawyer at the time, according to police.

After Solanki made his complaint, the police department's Property Crimes division issued a warrant. Kapadwala was arrested last Saturday and released after posting $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 3.
