Felon Gets Prison for Gun Possession

A Stamford man, Craig Dralle, 36, of Broad Street, was sentenced Nov. 22 to 21 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to court documents, in the late afternoon of December 27, 2009, Stamford police received a report of a man "waving a handgun" in the vicinity of 201 Broad St. in Stamford. Officers were told that the suspect could be near a hotel on East Main Street.

A Stamford police officer encountered Dralle in the hotel lobby and ordered him to the ground at gunpoint. After subduing Dralle, officers discovered a loaded .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun tucked inside his pants.

In 1998, Dralle was convicted in U.S. District Court in Connecticut of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. It is a violation of federal law for a previously convicted felon to knowingly possess a firearm or ammunition that has traveled in interstate or foreign commerce.

The Stamford Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative in Stamford.
