Elizabeth Binks, Historical Society Volunteer

Elizabeth Lobdell Binks, a Stamford resident for 37 years, died Dec. 20, succumbing to cancer after a brief battle with the disease. She was 81 years old. She moved to Stamford to be close to her family after she became divorced. Her community contributions included volunteering with the Stamford Historical Society, where she enhanced the organization with her talents.

Binks was born June 30, 1929. She spent her early years in Alma, Mich., including quite a bit of time at Black Lake, which she enjoyed immensely. She attended college at Northwestern. She married Chicago resident Donald M. Binks. The couple has two daughters, Lizbeth and Becky, but the marriage eventually ended in divorce. Shee moved to Stamford in 19973 and was in her element at the Stamford Historical Society, where she served as a volunteer for several years. One of the skills she brought with her was expertise in refinishing exquisite furniture. She especially enjoyed antiques. She also was a talented gardener and flower arranger.

Binks is survived by a cousin, and two grandchildren. Her family plans to hold a memorial service at Black Lake in the summer of 2011.
