Edith Cackowski Funeral Held Saturday

Edith M. Cackowski, the sole surviving sibling of the Wissman family of Stamford, died Monday at age 92. Relatives and friends will be received by the family from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford. A funeral Mass celebrating Edith's life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Stamford's Holy Name of Jesus Church, 369 Washington Blvd.

Born Edith Wissman on July 18, 1918, in Williamsburg, Mass., she lived most of her life in Stamford and was one of seven siblings. Her parents, the late George and Martha Wissman, came to the United States from Poland. Edith held several different jobs after attending high school in Stamford. She worked for JCPenney, Bell Telephone and Cheesebrough-Ponds, among others.

Edith was predeceased by her husband, Frank. All of her siblings — four sisters and two brothers – also predeceased her.

The last five years of her life Edith lived with daughter Edith Witherell and her husband, Bill, in North Grafton, Mass. Edith died at St. Mary's Health Center in Worcester, Mass., after an extended illness. She also is survived by daughter Mary Lou Ables and her husband, Jerry.

Other surviving family members include niece Helen Baum, five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

After Saturday's Mass, Edith will be buried next to her husband Frank at St. John's Cemetery in Darien. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be contributed to St. Mary's Health Care Center, 39 Queen St., Worcester, Mass., 01610.
