Cooling Centers Open in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn.—With temperatures expected to range into the high 80s the next few days, the City of Stamford has opened cooling centers to keep people out of the heat. Currently plans are to keep the centers open through Wednesday.

The Stamford Government Center will be open until 8 p.m. each day, and the Stamford Fire and Rescue stations can be used 24-hours a day for those in need.

The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert for the area until 11 p.m. Monday. Alerts are issued when ground-level ozone may exceed healthy standards, the alert says.

A hazardous weather outlook has also been issued for the week. The alert says that there is a chance of thunderstorms and heavy rain during the late afternoon and early evening and that temperatures may go over the 100 degree mark later this week.
