Construction Worker Dies in Fall in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Construction at the Chelsea Piers site in Stamford was shut down Tuesday after a construction worker fell to his death, a Stamford Advocate article said.

Javier Salinas, 36, of Danbury, has been identified as the victim, the article said. He fell through an open roof more than 50 feet high, the article said. Preliminary interviews say that he did not have any safety equipment on at the time of the accident, the article said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is leading the investigation to determine what caused the accident, the article said. Stamford police are assisting and believe gusty winds may have played a factor, the report said.

Salinas worked for American Buildings, a contractor for AP Construction, the report said. Stamford Fire and Rescue and Stamford Emergency Medical Services were on the scene, the report said.
