Cashier Allegedly Admits to Theft

Stamford resident Karen Rosenfeld, 18, of Turn of River Road, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after her former boss at Keough's Hardware Store told police that she had pocketed money from the cash register when she worked for him as a cashier.

The complaint said Rosenfeld obtained the manager's username and password, overrode the store's computerized sales system and created false cash returns from actual cash sales, according to police. The manager became aware of the theft when he noticed a discrepancy between sales receipts and inventory items.

He confronted Rosenfeld, who admitted to stealing money from May 15 to July 3, according to police. The manager had Rosenfeld sign a written statement attesting to the theft before she resigned July 3. The manager also supplied police with computer printouts showing the fake cash returns.

Rosenfeld was charged with fourth-degree larceny, embezzlement. She was released on a promise to appear in court Sept. 7.
