Car Thief Caught after Victim Spots Him

Miles Harris, 18, of Washington Boulevard, was arrested on charges of third-degree larceny after he was spotted with items belonging to another man, according to police. On Friday evening, a local resident went to the Stamford Police Department and reported his vehicle had been stolen from 823 E. Main St.

After leaving the police station, the resident saw Harris in the vehicle that he had just reported stolen. Harris parked the vehicle at Smith Street and Schuyler Avenue and went into a store, according to police. The victim, who apparently knew Harris, followed Harris into the store and confronted him. The victim saw that Harris was wearing a watch the victim had left in the car and saw Harris holding the car's keys.

The victim got his keys and watch back, and Harris ran. However, the victim knew Harris' address and told police where they could find him. Harris was taken into custody after running out his back door to try to escape and leading police on a brief foot chase. In addition to larceny, he was charged with interfering with officers/resisting arrest. He was released on a promise to appear in court Aug. 27.
