Blazey Enjoyed Travel, Dancing

A memorial service was held last Thursday for Irene Merrick Blazey. Born in Wales, she came to the United States at age 17 to work as a nanny, eventually making her way to Stamford. She had a full life that included several interesting careers and varied interests. She was a telephone operator for 12 years and a realtor for 20 years, and capped her work experience as an antiques dealer. She loved antiques and equally enjoyed travel, attending Broadway shows, perusing items at tag sales with friends, and square dancing. She was a member of the 1964 World Fair Swinging Squares dancers. Blazey was active in several organizations, including the Stamford Board of Realtors, Noroton Presbyterian Church, YWCA, Halloween Yacht Club and Daughters of the British Empire. Blazey died Aug. 12 at Stamford Hospital. She was married for 60 years to her husband, Stephen, who survives her. She is also survived by two sons, Stephen and Christopher, their wives, Alfreda and Sharon, and grandchildren Stephen, Alison, Jean and Brittany.
